Wordle

Wordle is a great digital tool and brilliant for visual learners. Really easy to use, but I suspect it might be more useful for older students.

Wordle: G&T

  1. Jo, i agree that Wordle is a great visual tool in the classroom but have to disagree on it being more useful for older students. I used Wordle on my prac with year 3 children as a collaborative reflection tool and the way they eagerly were involved with the task showed it can be appealing to all ages. Exercises such as Word walls on topics are the prime example of updating to the 21st century & using technology instead of a whiteboard. Implementing something such as Wordle in younger years can be as simple as using it collaboratively rather than individually. It's amazing the language and words that can come from a collaborative brainstorm in even the youngest years. It's all about using the technology to promote and develop further thinking amongst the students.

  2. Thanks for that Rom, I was struggling originally to see how I could use them in a Primary setting. Madison had some really good ideas too. I'll definitely be giving them a try now.

  3. Jo, you have changed the look of your blog!Every blog I go onto tonight, or should I say very early morning (1.50am) has those fish!

I haven't used Wordle as I found it too difficult to use. I used a similar one but found it easier to embed and there are more things you can do with it, like choose a shape.

How I would use that in teaching is have the children write a story about one of the shapes they wish to use and then insert the story into the shape. Very effective.

  4. I love wordle too Jo. The visual aspect is great, because that makes more sense to some learners, and all they need is that representation to kick start them. Great tool to see if the wordle displays what you were trying to say with text, or what you thought the text was about. A fun way of doing those critiques that can be tiresome.
(disappointed - I thought your wordle was describing us as a class, not your capstone)

  5. ...maybe it's both....

Seriously, I've been using wordle ever such a lot (and showing my daughters, who are also uni students). I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm much more of a visual learner than I first thought. As you say - it's another way of connecting students with their learning.
